Thesis Abstract.

* Process of design, fabrication, and construction of complex forms is the main reason for the study of digitalmedia and it's effects on them. The use of digitalmedia in design can enhance any project. Only when complex design ideas pertaining to process, fabrication, and construction are considered, will the use of digital media be essential and more beneficial than traditional design methods. I don't feel that the use of digital media is very beneficial when designing for forms that can be conceived and conveyed and fabricated with traditional drafting and construction methods.

DESIGN
Design in the architecture profession has been known as something that one did in college and something that the one percent gets to do. This is a very stereotypical view, but one that I feel has a valid point in supporting this thesis.
Design of architecture is something more than what looks good, and is functional. Combining function and aesthetics with a strong conceptual idea and expressing that idea is when real design and architecture occur.

FABRICATION
Fabrication for a long time has been dictated in shop drawings by manufacturers and usually has some later impact on the architect’s initial designs. With the architect going back to the role of the master builder and starting to dictate how pieces of a project are fabricated, the more control and better management an architect has on the design.

DIGITAL MEDIA
Digitalmedia consists of computer aided design tools that include 3D modeling programs, graphic design software, and computer drafting applications. In addition to these output programs for the production of drawings, and images are CNC mills, laser-cutters, and tools similar to them that are used to produce precision scale models of the design and later to fabricate the actual pieces of the building used for construction. These tools interface with the architect through CAD drawings that are the same as the working drawings used in fabrication and construction/assembly.
